Quality Chinese Food in Budapest at Moscow

A 26 segment × 3 exposure (78 frames in total)...Image via Wikipedia

"Ping Restaurant is located at Moscow Square by the foot of Rose Hill, where the 1st, the 2nd and the 12th districts meet. Its a rather convenient place to find on trams 4 and 6, and on other trams like 18, 56, 57 and 61. More than ten bus lines run there too. It is also connected to the No.2 “red” metro line. The city’s most important sights like the Buda Castle with the Fishermen’s Bastion or the Danube embankment are only a few minutes away. Next to Moscow Square you can also find the Mammut Mall shopping centre.

Ping Restaurant’s interior design has a distinct Chinese flavour, yet it is subdued and elegant, with modern lighting fixtures that give it an intimate feel. And there are of course all the requisites of a classical Chinese restaurant: delicate chinaware, comfortable seats, beautiful plants, even an elegant fish-tank.

One part of the restaurant has a glass roof that can be opened, so this space has the atmosphere of a small inner courtyard. This is where you can find a pond with goldfish, a small rock garden, plants and waterfall. On hot summer days when the roof is open, it is nice to sit here and enjoy the cool breeze.

On chilly winter days, no matter how freezing it is outside guests can just sit and relax, watching the fish and the waterfall and your heart fills with the hope of the coming spring.

Ping restaurant, which was opened in January 1997, can accommodate 100 patrons at a time. With its location it attracts many expats and locals living in the 1st, the 2nd and the 12th districts. It often welcomes Chinese delegations coming from mainland China.

The Chinese name of our restaurant is “YI-HE Restaurant”. This unusual name is said to symbolize the restaurants deepest concern: the well-being of its guests. This authentic restaurant offers more than just the flavours of a narrow region of China: guests can enjoy the best of typical Chinese cuisine, and also quite a few 'house specialities': meals that have been invented to meet the demands of Chinese clients, and some that cater for the Hungarian public.

Chinese tourist groups coming to Hungary often make Pink their home from home, since it is the chef’s special concern to treat them with the tastes he knows they like best. They have the policy of saying that no matter where a guest comes from, they will not leave disappointed.

Ping is proud of the numerous Hungarian celebrities have eaten there. Apparently among regular visitors are MPs, ministers, foreign diplomats, artists, actors, sportsmen, well-known media personalities. It is a real reward for all these years of hard work that our restaurant is said by many to be the best Chinese restaurant in Budapest.

Chinese guests coming from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other countries also seem to be content with our food and service. There are times when Chinese tourist groups start and end their Europe round tour in Budapest, having their first and final meals at Ping. The restaurant manager says he can often hear these groups say: “The best meals of the whole tour were the two in Budapest!”

In 2000 the Hungarian Caterers’ Association decided to make a list of the best Hungarian restaurants, in response to the “black list of Hungarian restaurants” that the US Embassy published then. They did a thorough job collecting ideas from the public to make a comprehensive “roll of honour”.

To the joy of the team at Ping their restaurant was selected, and received at that time the official recommendation of the Hungarian Caterers’ Association. A truly prestigious award considering that from all the Chinese restaurants and over a hundred Chinese fast food restaurants here, only Ping was found worthy of this honour."
